Good Times at the Movie Haus

Cheer up. I know you're not gay.

Couple months ago me and the wife went to see Milk, the recent Sean Penn Oscar vehicle. About 15 minutes into the film, after a couple of man-on-man makeout scenes, this large man and his companion in front of us got up and walked out of the theater (or "theatre" for you Canadians readers). The man was shaking his head. Maybe he forgot to pick up his kid from soccer or something.

About ten minutes later, I adjourned to the concessionaire stand for some popcorn and a five-dollar soda. Whereupon I noticed the guy who got up and walked out of the theater/re playing one of those hunting video games while his wife/girlfriend stood dutifully behind him.

I can discern one possible narrative from the above sequence of events: the guy went to see Milk completely unaware of the subject matter. He painstakingly endured one gay makeout scene, but then by the third one, the gay panic was too much for him to bear. Images of his childhood and his cold, distant, derisive father flitted through his brain, commingling with blind man-rage until he could stand it no longer and had to find sweet release in the simulated blasting of cartoon deers and elks, possibly followed by a night of angry, vengeful sex with his companion.

Also, I just came upon what may very possibly be the dumb-assest band name ever:

Funky Jahphunkies

Commence hippie-eradication plans.

COMMENTS

Interesting read on the Travis Bean Guitars. I have seen guys play those from time to time, but I did not know much about them. Very cool thing Mr. Hank has done, very cool indeed.

Aside: for the record, this quote here from the Independent article is not correct:

"Tim Midgett, a former Missoulian who formed the band Ein Heit in the late '80s then moved to Seattle to start the band Silkworm"

Silkworm as most Missoula Kids would know was started in Missoula, did 2 records "Advantage" and "Girl Harbr", THEN relocated to Seattle.
