Means
The second book in the volume, which is about as half as long as the first (800 vs. 400 pgs), makes up for a relatively dull first section, with an absolutely stunning retelling of LBJ's outright theft of a Senate seat in 1948. Buying an uprecedented 99% of the vote from the "Duke of Duval" showed some balls, even in horribly crooked context of Texas elections. But to get 99% of the vote with 99% of the eligible voters supposedly voting, and winning by a scant 87 votes was pure, obvious larceny. His opponent, Coke "Mr. Texas" Stevenson, a man who never sought elective office without being begged by others, could hardly stand to let this injustice slide. Enter one Frank Hamer, the Texas Ranger who ambushed Bonnie and Clyde (shit you not), and a you have a showdown alternately evoking Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, and All the President's Men...and it's true.
