Big Business- Tour EP

Ach du lieber! What we got here is the latest outfit from Jared of Karp/Tight Bros/Whip fame, and it's a four-songer from Wäntage that blows down doors more than anything I've injected into my CD player in many months. Two dudes: Jared on bass and vocals and Coady on drums, who used to be in the Murder City Devils (and no, Big Business features exactly zero of whatever it was about the Murder City Devils that seemed to delude a great many people into believing they were something other than completely worthless). I don't know that it's mathematically possible for a band involving Mr. Jared to be anything but six shades of awesome; the guy is bred to produce nothing less than hi-grade rock. Ever since the untimely demise of The Whip a couple years ago (drummer killed in boating accident) (those of you who got in on the Yalestar.com sampler got a brief helping of The Whip; something about frozen chicken being dropped in hot oil...), many of us have been doing the piss dance waiting to see what Jared would come up with next. Very often, discerning musicologists like yourself hear "two-man band" and immediately think, "oh great, another fucking Godheadsilo or Hella type of thing, a 'superlative' band, where I'm expected to have my mind blown by the sheer size of their amps or their volume or some other such forgettable, artless novelty." Negative, Ghostrider. Well sure, Big Business has the super-distorto bass thing going, but you can discern the notes, and sir, they are crafty! Plus Jared's voice, you can't really go too wrong with that on your side. The man is possessed of a preternaturally potent set of pipes that often recalls the glory of Mr. Bon Scott or Mr. Rick Sims of Didjits fame. So anyway, this EP fucking rules the universe, full stop. The third tune, "Evil Medievil," (sic) is the coolest song I've heard in 2005. It has this colossus riffle that resolves itself on a really weird spot and almost makes you fall down if you're listening while walking. Best five dollars you'll spend this year. Get in on the ground floor of this shit or risk certain imperilment. And don't forget to complete your Big Business discography by downloading "Focus Pocus" off the Big Business website. It is an assblaster.
